Port Elliot Holiday Home – History
We bought Elanora Rose in 2011 from a local identity named Rose. We have renovated it to be a beautiful Port Elliot Holiday Home.
Rose had a passion for art, travel and life. She had Motor Neurone Disease and, in the short time that we had the pleasure of knowing Rose, we learned that she had bought the house from an older gentleman.
When Rose moved into the property she came across a name plate “Elanora”. Rose believed it was the gentleman’s wife’s name. We thought this should be commemorated in the name of our Port Elliot Holiday Home.
Rose also told many stories about her life living in the house and raising her only son, who attended the local primary school in Port Elliot. Resthaven now stands where the school buildings and grounds use to be. Thankfully, the original old school house was saved and restored. It is now in use as a community centre.
This is how Elanora Rose came to be…
Elanora Rose was run down and needed a lot of work to turn her into a lovely Port Elliot holiday home, however, we knew she was loved as we felt an incredible connection and the soul of the house the day we walked through the door to inspect her.
Before and After – Elanora Rose, Port Elliot Holiday Home
We have restored this lovely Port Elliot holiday home mostly ourselves with just a little help from others. The kitchen is hand made by Phil my hubby who I think is very talented! Phil also made many other furniture pieces in the house, restored fire places, paved, built a shed and anything else you can think of.
Ultimately, all we want is to share our beautiful Port Elliot holiday home, Elanora Rose, with others who appreciate old world charm made from stone, wooden floors, fire places and high ceilings. We genuinely hope you fall in love with Elanora Rose like we have.
